I just love the look of solid granny blankets and scrap blankets. What I don't like is crocheting them. So after a little experimentation I decided to knit my very own blanket.
Right now I'm making 2 blankets with the same base pattern. My favourite to make so far is the giant scrap blanket that I hope will end up 2m by 2m in size (or at the very least. 1,6m x 1,6m) the other I estimate will become 1,4x 2m and will consist of 108 squares and a decorative border
Material List:
What I used:
- yarn : Sport weight cotton like Scheepjes Catona and Grundl cotton quick
- double pointed needles(set of 5) + circular needles 2,5 or 3mm
To use leftovers:
Lots of different size yarns?
Grab the thickest yarn you have a make a swatch to decide needle size. You want to swatch to be soft and drapey but not holey.
For the smaller yarns hold multiple strands together.
All in similar thickness?
Decide between single and multiple strands held together before making a stockinette swatch to decide needle size. Or grab a yarn band to pick a needle size
The Pattern:
I want to make the pattern as easy to understand as possible therefor I've written instructions twice (once for circular and once for dpns)
DPNs
using dpns cast on 8 stitches and join in the round (2 on each needle).
round 1: k, kfb (repeat for each needle)
round 2: knit the whole round.
round 3: k1, yo, knit to last stitch on the needle, yo, k1.
round 4: knit the whole round.
repeat rounds 3 and 4 until desired size has been reached.
Loosely cast off.
Circular needles:
using circular needles cast on 8 stitches and join in the round.
round 1: k, kfb, pm.
round 2: knit the whole round
round 3: k1, yo, knit to last stitch before the stitch marker, yo, k1.
round 4: knit the whole round.
repeat rounds 3 and 4 until desired size has been reached.
Loosely cast off.
At this point I wished I could give you instructions for a beautiful edge. Unfortunately I still haven't finished either of the 2 blankets I'm making and therefor can't give you a decorative edge.
